  • Christmas in New Zealand Part 1

It is taking me a while to post any photos from my adventures down under.  I am sitting in my memories.

This trip was the summer I didn’t have.  With moving from Vancouver to Victoria, and a busy season photographing wonderful families both new and old, time for relaxing in the sun with my family did not happen.

This trip was a family adventure.  We spent most of our time in the country and out in the wilds with family in both New Zealand and Australia.  To watch my kids reconnect with their grandparents, cousins and aunties completely filled my ‘bucket’.  As a bonus, I had time to myself to simply let my creative energy out.  Jet-lag helped as early mornings were my friend.

I am skipping ahead to the end of our journey.  We took a few days to ourselves and visited the west coast of New Zealand in the Mt. Taranaki region.  To put it simply, I was blown away by the long black sand beaches on this side of the Island.  I was in heaven!

More images to come, of days living off of small country roads, cows, horses and swings in fields.

    Gorgeous Tofino Wedding

Another reminder of our glorious summer before the snow starts to fall.

This was my first Tofino wedding;not the first beach wedding nor Island wedding, but the first one on this glorious Westernmost coast.

I did not know that fog is present on the beach at any given time even though a few yards away there is nothing but sun.  It was quite surreal at some points surrounded by such a think grey cloud.

Tracey and Cliff married with their closest people as witnesses right on the beach in front of the Long Beach Resort.  It was an intimate and beautiful ceremony and those present a very close knit group.  I immediately felt welcomed into the family.

I especially loved the chemistry between Tracey and Cliff.  It was a lovely wedding to be a part of and I am very grateful I was invited to photograph it.

    The season of the family

This fall was very busy for me. The weather was perfect and made for many great days to photograph families.  I first met this lovely family in the spring, but as the young man of the family had just turned 3 mom wanted photos to document the occasion.  We headed out to Kits Beach and spent the afternoon playing in the leaves, watching M ride his bike like a superstar, and generally participating in merry making!

    My Monkeys

I haven’t done any personal posts from my new home in Victoria, but as I am playing with images for Christmas cards I love these two silly ones from my first trip out to Goldstream Park when we went to watch the salmon.

So, enjoy a quick glimpse at my monkeys!

    Downtown Fall Family Session

This is the third time I have photographed this lovely family.  Right in the heart of downtown is their little oasis.  We spent the morning wandering the Farmer’s Market and then off the park completely working at the kids’ pace.  What I enjoy most about this family is that they are just, present… I feel like a fly on the wall with them. They play with their kids and simply hang out and I am invited along.

Our kids grow up quickly.  To capture images of them in play, being silly and especially making it across on the monkey bars are important to create a whole image of their childhood.  I remember so distinctly the days both my girls were finally big to reach up and grab those rings, and then skip one and then the moment when they could skip two and three. They worked hard to get there and had the callouses to prove it.  Watching C on the monkey bars reminded me of the joy that the kids feel accomplishing such a feat!

I am trying out new templates tonight.  It may not necessarily work having the first group of images in colour and the second in black and white, but I wanted to try out both styles.

Thanks again to my downtown family who allow me to be a little part of their growing lives.
