  • New Years Resolutions

Resolutions are easy to make, but what if you have no choice.  I guess then we decide it is a commitment.  Sometimes our kids need us more than other times.  This is a year of commitment where one individual is top priority.  But I have two little monkeys.

When life is a little overwhelming, even scary sometimes, it is comforting to turn to something familiar.  Even though all members of my family are good, one little person needs a little extra love and attention and there is no expiry date on this.

I happened to be heading out to the Valley yesterday to visit my Grandpa when a quick stop was needed.  The fog was thick yet inviting.  We pulled into a gas station, but a gas station that was bordered by overgrown brambles and weeds.  It was perfect.

I asked my eldest if I could take her photo as she was looking so wistful as she gazed out the window into the fog while we waited.  She looked peaceful and of course, beautiful.  (She felt she had chosen her ‘perfect’ outfit that morning so she indulged me.)  I try to not direct her, but I fear that yes, she is the daughter of a photographer.  She appears to have a natural affinity for that far off look.

Sometimes when I feel a little overwhelmed by life, it is a moment like this . . . a photo by the side of the road with my child agreeing to allow me to capture a little of her quiet beauty, that I find strength in my creativity to help me comprehend the greatness of this world that we live in.
